Running On My Mind

20130125-110706.jpg

Next Sunday, (Superbowl Sunday) I will be running my first half marathon in SF. I attempted to sign up once before (last year) but sprained my ankle weeks before so wasn’t able to run the race. This time- I am ready! I have been training for the last couple of weeks and feel like between FNS and the increased running I have been eating everything in sight (no joke). Lucky for me, I am not really a snack buyer so I am not resorting to unhealthy food. I have been juicing more, making more smoothies with protein powder and cooking in between when I have time…it seems to be helping with my appetite. With the race 9 days away, I will complete a few more short runs and take it easy this weekend. Now I just need to find a cute new top and light jacket for the race. This is probably my favorite part of running a race haha. Lululemon- here I come. Tomorrow, I will be juicing for my fitness friends in hopes that anyone who house doubts of the taste or benefits will be enlightened and incorporate juicing into their diet. Can’t wait for this. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Go Now and Live.

Go Now and Live.

I am embracing these words for some Friday inspiration. I feel like everything can seem to be going right and then all of a sudden something happens, or someone says something that might throw you off track. This can lead to questioning everything in your life: job, friends, purpose, relationships and everything in between. I know for myself writing down some key words that I am feeling when I am in contact with certain people can better help me understand whether they should be in my life- or if it’s time to move on. I read this quote the other day, “If you’re brave to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.” It’s interesting how people can flow in an out of your life to teach you a little something. Sometimes you are rewarded with amazing friends who are unconditional and other times you gain everything that is needed from that person and move forward. Just know we all go through this from time to time! I am so ready for a new year and the new possibilities that lie ahead. Life is about learning and if you don’t choose to listen and learn…..it will teach you again and again! ( I am guilty of this!) “Keep your heart open, your head high and your spirit free.”

Hope you are having a fabulous Friday!

Themed Prints.

believe

If we are friends on Facebook, I am sure you have seen many posts full of motivating or funny e-cards that I come across and can’t help but share. My main goal for posting anything is to bring light to a situation and better connect with people while we are all living this busy and adventurous life together- and make it known that we all can relate to each other in some form or fashion. It’s funny how you can read something at just the perfect time that it relates to a situation you might be going through, or maybe have even overcome. It seems to be the case alot with me. It’s easy to say you know something already, instead of reading or listening to what someone has to say- and applying it to the now. I moved recently and am in the process of decorating my room. I just purchased this themed print from Happy Deliveries on Etsy and can’t wait to post when it arrives. You may have heard something a million times, but to the degree in which you process might be different each time. Never understimate how the power of a few words can change your life( if you allow it). Happy Deliveries has lots of cool prints so if you have a chance check it out!

With that said…

Believe it can be done. (If you don’t believe, who will believe in you.)

What I love about Me: Nicole McAleavey.

{Tell us something you love about yourself.}

I love my dedication and follow through. Whether it was by studying dance for 10 + years and achieving my optimal artistic expression (well optimal at that time, as we are always growing) or venturing more recently into a new nursing career path, when I put my mind to something I do it, and with all of my heart.

{ What is your favorite physical feature?}

My favorite physical feature is my smile. Nothing quite compares to how a genuine smile makes not only other people feel, but the person who is smiling as well.  I am talking about the kind of smile felt from the inside and then radiates out.

{What is something you used to dislike about yourself that you have now come to appreciate?}

I used to dislike my butt. Like most pre-pubescent girls, body image was not really on my radar and I pretty much ate whatever I wanted.  As I entered 8th grade, so did my newly acquired or should I say transformed rear. I can now honestly and thankfully say I am out of the “lets tie a sweater around my waist” phase and I will never have to buy padded booty jeans!

{What is your proudest accomplishment?}

Two of my proudest accomplishments thus far: being invited to join an eight member dance company and dance along side my mentors, and getting into every nursing school I applied to.

{Tell us about your style. What type of outfit do you feel the most like yourself in?}

My style ranges from boho to simple and classic with some great vintage finds. Lace and faux fur are some of my favorite textures and I love to throw in some bright colors/prints and of course jewelry…big jewelry girl.

{List your top three favorite things to do?}

Top 3 favorite things to do and in no particular order: workout/ be active outdoors, photography (or anything I can do to channel my artistic energy), and travel.

{What makes you the happiest?}

What makes me the happiest is knowing I may have helped make someone’s day just a little bit better. Whether it be by smiling at a stranger,offering a listening ear to a friend in need, or being the sounding board to a frustrated patient in the hospital, it’s the little things that can have the most profound effects.

{How do you find your motivation to workout?}

I find my motivation to work out in the knowing how I feel not only after my workout, but also during. There are those times when your fatigue level is high, but when you feel that chill and KEEP going, you have several realizations with yourself: You are stronger than you think you are and your growth potential is limitless. The euphoria and energy I get post workout and through the rest of the day is addictive and keeps me coming back for more. And last, but certainly not least, being a part of a supportive fitness community has played an essential role, so thank you to all of the team and members of FNS!

{How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle between work, school, family, social life etc.?}

For me a healthy lifestyle is one of balance, however to play hard most of us have to work hard which doesn’t always leave a lot of time for other things. With that said, we make time for the things that are important to us. Now that school has begun, maintaining this balance will be challenging at times but not impossible. It is about prioritization and time management. The better I manage my time the more of my time I have to fill with family, friends, and other hobbies. In turn, I am happier and being in the right state of mind I am able to work harder. It is like a big feedback loop; manage time, have more time for family, friends/”me”, I feel balanced, I work harder!

{What is your main goal you are reaching towards in the next 6 months?}

Right now, my main priority is launching my nursing career and in the next six months be the best nursing student I can be.

What I Love About Me.

I am sure you know by now that I am intrigued by all things motivational and encouraging. If I share a quote it’s because in some way or another it has resonated inside and has me thinking.  These next couple of posts will be dedicated to a few people I have met in the last couple of months who provide inspiration as well as share a common ground for living a healthy lifestyle. This includes balance with everything in life, not just eating and working out. Above all I think we must love ourselves in order to be successful or provide love for others. So often, people compare themselves to their friends, celebrities or social media instead of forgetting that you are supposed to only be your best YOU.

I hope you find some source of inspiration, motivation and the realization that we are living this life together!

Enjoy.
